GAME STATS

TEAM USA 2013 BLUE VS. LATIN AMERICA

TEAM USA 2013 BLUE (3-1) – 98

LATIN AMERICA (0-4) – 70

In their second matchup of the tournament, Latin America and USA 2013 Blue both started off hot with a flurry of fast-break baskets on both sides. Eventually however as the game progressed, USA 2013 continued to show off their deep roster and began to pull away, building a 20 point lead at the half. With consistent shooting and strong defensive hands, USA proved to be too much for the Latin American team and towards the close of the third quarter, Latin America’s team was reduced to four due to injury and resulted in a forfeit in the face of a near 30 point deficit 98-70.

TEAM USA 2013 RED VS. AUSTRALIA

TEAM USA 2013 RED (4-0) – 71

AUSTRALIA (1-2)- 66

USA 2013 Red beat Team Australia by a final score of 71-66. The game started slowly and after Chris Walker left the game early in the first quarter after taking an inadvertent elbow to the head from a member of Team Australia; Rodney Bullock led the USA Red squad with 14 points and 9 rebounds. Both teams played great defense and really locked down in the second half. Australia took a brief lead early in the 3rd quarter behind Owen Odigie’s aggressive play. He finished with 14 points and 3 boards.

TEAM USA 2012 BLUE VS. TEAM EUROPE

TEAM USA 2012 BLUE (4-0)– 99

TEAM EUROPE (1-3) – 96

With the Adidas Nation Final Four on the line USA 2012 Blue beat Europe in an overtime thriller. Europe’s head coach Robert Jurkovic runs a high-tempo, fast paced offense that many teams have had trouble defending. Europe’s offense is led by Roko Rogic, the most complete point guard in this tournament. Rogic finished the game with 22 points and 8 rebounds. Europe’s big man Stipe Krstanovic hustled on every play with 20 points and 17 rebounds. However, today that was not enough. The USA Blue team kept up with Europe’s fast break offense and came in with some clutch free throws. Winston Sheppard energized the stadium with a vicious dunk in overtime. Sam Dekker led the team with 24 points and 1 rebound.

USA 2012 RED VS. ASIA

USA 2012 RED (4-0)- 82

ASIA (0-3)- 63

USA 2012 Red vs. Asia was competitive in the first half but USA 2012 Red blew the lead open in the 3rd quarter and never looked back. They ended up punishing Asia and winning 82-63. USA 2012 Red was led by Gabe York with 23 points. In his first hame back since injury, Kyle Anderson had a strong performance with 18 points, 9 rebounds and 3 assists. Asia was led by Steven Adams with 20 points and 24 rebounds as well as Yan Cao who added 18 points. They each play their next game on Sunday at 4 pm.

SUNDAY EVENING SESSION RECAPS

TEAM EUROPE VS. AUSTRALIA

AUSTRALIA (2-2)- 60

EUROPE (1-4) – 57

The Australia vs. Europe game was another exciting one that came right down to the final seconds. Australia’s Owen Odigie led the team with 25 points and 9 rebounds. Australia came up with the win by playing great defense. The Final score was 60 – 57. Although England did not come out with the victory, they played great throughout the tournament and they are a much better team than their score represents.

TEAM AFRICA VS. TEAM ASIA

AFRICA (2-2)- 90

ASIA (0-4)- 63

Team Africa finished pool play on a high note, beating Asia 90-63. Africa came out of the gates quick, jumping out to a 20-7 lead before the end of the first quarter. They pushed their lead to 20 midway through the second quarter and never looked back. Led by Emmanual Mudiay’s 16 point 3 rebound 4 assist performance, Team Africa disturbed the ball beautifully around the perimeter, usually resulting in easy looks around the bucket. For team Asia they were led by Delong Han’s 13 points. Steven Adams was strapped with foul trouble and it seemed to take him out of his rhythm early, he finished with 11 points and 5 boards.

TEAM USA 2013 BLUE VS. TEAM USA 2013 RED

TEAM USA 2013 RED (5-0)-106

TEAM USA 2013 BLUE (3-2) – 97

In a greatly competitive matchup with championship implications on the line USA Red 2013 defeats USA Blue 2013 106-97. This game was high speed from start to finish. There was pure athleticism on display from the opening tip as the Harrison twins got in the lane almost at will. They also had another high riser in junior standout Chris Walker. Aaron Harrison led all scorers with 25 pts, as Elijah Brown chipped in with a very impressive 18pts. Elijah Brown often made big baskets that kept the momentum in their favor. Nigel Williams-Goss and Isaac Hamilton led the charge for USA Blue 2013 with 17pts and 16 pts respectively. Solomon Poole had a solid 16pts that included two huge dunks. He was often the glue out there playing hard nose defense to match his offensive output.

TEAM USA 2012 RED VS.USA 2012 BLUE

TEAM USA 2012 BLUE (5-0) – 87

TEAM USA 2012 RED (2-2)– 86

Sunday night USA Red 2012 vs USA 2012 Blue were matched up to see who would play in the championships. This game showcased the nations top seniors and was the “must see” game of the week highlighting two of the tournaments leading scorers Andre Drummond and Gabe York.

The camp is winding down and the top two teams competed for the title with coach Alex English’s squad winning the tightly contested battle. The players have given it their all and learned a great deal about the game of basketball and themselves. Additionally having the top female players involved really provided a complete basketball experience for everyone as they learned valuable skills which they will try to incorporate into their games.

All of the coaches and administrators attended a fantastic dinner last night with stories and smiles shared by all. The camp will wrap up tomorrow with a short all star game and closing dinner for everyone.

Special thanks to everyone involved at adidas, the Chinese Basketball Association, and the city of DongGuang Sports Academy. We look forward to a return in 2012 and can’t wait to see everyone in Los Angeles.

Tournament play continued as the top players started to distance themselves from the competition. It’s become very clear that the team representing China at adidas nations Los Angeles must play at a very fast pace and keep the pressure on. All of the teams played two games today, with Asia Blue (Coach LaSalle Thompson) remaining undefeated with many of the top players in camp.

One highlight today was the NBA/CBA coaching clinic. About 20 CBA coaches were in attendance and thoroughly enjoyed the knowledge provided by coaches Tony Brown, Alex English and LaSalle Thompson. Coaches covered offensive sets, out of bounds plays and post play defense. Much of the content were direct sets run by NBA teams and something the CBA coaches will immediately adapt to their repertoires. “When we can learn what the Boston Celtics or Toronto Raptors are doing to creatively get shots for their best players…that’s something I will try to incorporate into our team,” said one CBA Coach.

Several standout players emerged: PG Youwei Zhang, SG Ziyang Xu, PF Yinglun Shao, SF Yan Cao, SG Delong Han, PF You Wang, SF Yi Zhai, C Pengfei Yan, SF Yi Zhai.

Day two began with Coach Darren “Mats” Matsubara addressing the players and thanking them for their participation in adidas Nations. As the competition heats up, only a select few will make the team reperesenting Asia at the global experience in Los Angeles.

The day began with drill work led by the NBA coaches and more individual instruction. Again, Jrue Holiday took the chance to work on his game and joined the players during stations and scrimmages. If there’s one thing about the Chinese players that stands out, it’s how hard they play and how hard they work. The small nuances of the game are what is lacking most, and slowly but surely you can notice them begin to pick up the little things to improve their game. Each coach agrees, slowing down the game and changing speeds is the most noticeable improvement needed, they like to play in warp speed.

Game play finished off the day with another heated battle among Alex English’s Asia Red Team and the Chris Rivers led Asia Red Development. Rivers’ squad prevailed, we’ll see if they can keep it up in day 3 as tournament play begins.

Day 1 of the 2011 adidas Nations China camp got off to a fantastic start with over 60 players performing in Dongguan at the beautiful new 8 court facility. Coach Li started the day with a spirited introduction as several dignitaries, coaches, and staff were introduced by adidas sports marketing liaison Marcus Kam.

The 63 players consisting of 48 men and 15 women, were then led through a warmup by Asia Red Development Team Coach and adidas global asset manager Chris Rivers. Rivers would later lead his team to victory in the most spirited battle of the day.

Following warmup, the players were then taken through a skill development session led by NBA coaches Alex English, Tony Brown and LaSalle Thompson. Players worked quickly and drilled hard before breaking into teams and competing in controlled scrimmages coached by CBA (Chinese Basketball Association) assigned coaches.

The highlight of the day for the Chinese players was definitely the presence of NBA star Jrue Holiday (Philadelphia 76ers). Not only did Jrue participate in the drill work and personal instruction, but he decided to join in the scrimmage and played most of the second half as his team made a valiant comeback but fell just short of the Rivers led squad.
